MADRID: Spain has appointed a new ambassador to Buenos Aires to end a months-long diplomatic row between the two countries, according to an official statement on Tuesday. Following the weekly Cabinet meeting, the government announced that Joaquin Maria de Aristegui Laborde has been appointed as the new Spanish ambassador to Argentina. Separately, in a joint statement, the two countries vowed to "strengthen our relationship so that it reaches the maximum level of trust and mutual respect in political and institutional terms that our people deserve." In May, Argentina's President Javier Milei spoke at a far-right Vox party's rally in Madrid and called Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez's wife Begona Gomez "corrupt," and refused to apologize later, triggering Spain to withdraw its ambassador to "defend the dignity and sovereignty of Spanish institutions."?
