Spain Plans Transfer of 500 Migrant Girls from Ceuta to Mainland

Madrid: Spain's government is preparing to transfer approximately 500 unaccompanied migrant girls from the North African enclave of Ceuta to mainland Spain. This move comes in response to the mass arrival of migrants at the end of July, according to a report from the Spanish newspaper El Pais on Wednesday.

According to Anadolu Agency, the Ministry of Youth and Children is exploring several options for these minors. These options include distributing them among Spain's autonomous regions, placing them in foster care, and arranging accommodations with child-protection organizations.

Ceuta's government has agreed to the plan, describing it as an 'extraordinary measure.' However, they continue to advocate for the return to Morocco of individuals who entered the enclave irregularly, which includes unaccompanied minors.

In the meantime, UNICEF has issued a warning regarding the 'insecurity and unsanitary conditions' that are impacting hundreds of minors in Ceuta. The organization has called for the urgent identification of these children and emphasized the need for immediate access to food and medical care.
