Spain Stresses Fair Peace Agreement Between Russia and Ukraine for Europe

Paris: Any potential peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine must be fair for Europe and the region, Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares said. During his visit to the French capital Paris with foreign ministers from several other European Union countries, Albares commented on US President Donald Trump’s announcement regarding a phone conversation he had with Russian President Vladimir Putin. He expressed caution about Trump’s statement, saying: “Nothing can be decided about Ukraine without Ukraine, and nothing can be decided about Europe’s security without Europe.”

According to Anadolu Agency, Albares emphasized that any potential peace deal should also respect the UN Charter, adding: “An unjust peace cannot end an unjust war, because such a deal would not be beneficial for Europe’s security or global stability.” Albares’ remarks came shortly after the call between Trump and Putin.

Trump, on his Truth Social platform, shared details of his discussion with Putin, stating, “We discussed Ukraine, t
he Middle East, Energy, Artificial Intelligence, the power of the Dollar, and various other subjects.” He mentioned that they spoke about the strengths of their nations and the “great benefit that we will someday have in working together.”

Trump further elaborated on their mutual desire to end the conflict, stating, “But first, as we both agreed, we want to stop the millions of deaths taking place in the War with Russia/Ukraine. President Putin even used my very strong campaign motto of ‘COMMON SENSE.’ We both believe very strongly in it.” He added that they agreed to work closely together, including visiting each other’s nations, and that their respective teams would start negotiations immediately, beginning with a call to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

The conversation with Zelenskyy was also highlighted by Trump, who noted, “The conversation went very well. He, like President Putin, wants to make PEACE.” Trump mentioned a meeting being arranged in Munich, Germany, led by US Vice President JD Va
nce and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, expressing hope for positive results. “It is time to stop this ridiculous War, where there has been massive, and totally unnecessary, DEATH and DESTRUCTION. God bless the people of Russia and Ukraine!” Trump concluded.
