Madrid: Spanish national energy provider announced on Monday that the blackout affecting Spain and Portugal may persist for 6 to 10 hours, as reported by local media.

According to Anadolu Agency, Eduardo Prieto, director of services for Spanish energy provider Red Electrica, described the outage as 'exceptional and totally extraordinary' and estimated a repair time of 6 to 10 hours. Red Electrica confirmed that power restoration efforts have commenced in the northern and southern regions of the peninsula, although the blackout's cause remains unidentified and continues to disrupt transportation in numerous areas.

The electricity outage, which began around midday Monday, has affected Portugal, Spain, Andorra, and certain areas of France. Investigations into the cause of the outage are underway, with Spain's National Institute for Cybersecurity examining the possibility of a cyberattack.

In response to the situation, the Spanish government has convened an emergency meeting involving Spain's national energy provider Red Electrica. Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, along with several ministers, will participate in the discussions. Additionally, the Madrid government has activated an emergency coordination meeting to manage the blackout's effects.
