Strategic Political Defense Committee to Convene in Riyadh Soon

Riyadh:Mecca Pakistani Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar announced that the Strategic Political Defense Committee (SPDC), formed under the joint defense agreement between Pakistan, Trkiye, and Saudi Arabia, is set to meet soon in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

According to Anadolu Agency, the committee comprises three members from each nation, including the foreign ministers, defense ministers, and chiefs of General Staff. Recently, the military chiefs convened in Riyadh on September 25, following a meeting of the foreign ministers in New York on September 24.

Dar noted that the SPDC meeting in Riyadh has been agreed upon in principle and is expected to take place in the coming week amid ongoing Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia. In conversations with Iranian officials in New York, Dar mentioned their suggestion to politically engage the Houthis, highlighting the Iranian president and foreign minister's desire for the Houthi-Saudi conflict to end.

The foreign minister emphasized the necessity for all pact members to make decisions collectively and indicated that the Iranians have distanced themselves from both the Houthis and the Iraqi militia. He also mentioned that over six countries have expressed interest in joining the Mecca pact, which was signed in August by Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. The agreement asserts that an attack on any signatory will be viewed as an attack on all member states.
