Khartoum:Sudan has accused Ethiopia of permitting its territory to be used for launching drones in recent attacks against Sudan. A senior official from the Sudanese Foreign Ministry described the alleged drone launches as a significant threat to regional security and stability.
According to Anadolu Agency – English, Foreign Ministry Undersecretary Muawiya Osman Khalid expressed these concerns during a seminar organized by the Sudan News Agency (SUNA) in Khartoum. Khalid addressed allegations of Ethiopian support for the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), asserting that Ethiopia continues its aggressive actions against Sudan.
Khalid emphasized Sudan's right to self-defense and the importance of keeping the international community informed. He called on global justice institutions to intervene to stop the aggression. While criticizing the Ethiopian government's actions, Khalid highlighted Sudan's positive relationship with the Ethiopian people.
The remarks came after drone strikes on six electricity stations in Khartoum, Al-Jazira, Sennar, and Al-Qadarif. Sudan has accused Ethiopia of backing the RSF and facilitating drone launches from its land, allegations that Ethiopia has denied, affirming its respect for Sudan's sovereignty.
The conflict between Sudan's army and the RSF, which began in April 2023 due to disputes over the paramilitary group's integration into the military, has resulted in significant casualties and displacement. The United Nations and international organizations estimate that tens of thousands have died, nearly 13 million have been displaced, and famine and humanitarian crises have worsened.
