Ankara: Sudan on Saturday briefed the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and several international organizations in Geneva about the 'atrocities' committed by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in El-Fasher and Bara. According to Anadolu Agency, Sudan's Permanent Representative Hassan Hamid met with Nada Al-Nashif, the deputy high commissioner for human rights, and senior officials from the Africa and Sudan Division at the UN headquarters in Geneva. Hamid presented details of the 'crimes' carried out by the RSF militia since October 26 in El-Fasher and surrounding areas. The Sudanese delegate claimed that the international community's lack of action has encouraged the RSF 'to commit these atrocities.' He provided evidence of 'ethnically motivated executions,' including the mass killings of patients, caregivers, and medical staff at the Saudi Maternity Hospital in El-Fasher. Similar incidents were reported in Bara. On October 25, the RSF announced that they had retaken the city of Bara, located about 35 kilometers northeast of El-Obeid, the capital of North Kordofan state. This led to large waves of displacement, amid accusations of civilian abuses by the RSF from the government and human rights organizations. RSF leader Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, also known as Hemedti, acknowledged on Wednesday that 'violations' had occurred by his forces in El-Fasher and stated that investigation committees had been established. Since April 15, 2023, the Sudanese army and the RSF have been in conflict, which has resulted in about 20,000 deaths and displaced over 15 million people, according to UN and local reports.
