Khartoum: Sudan's Defense Ministry announced on Sunday that it had intercepted and downed a 'hostile' drone in the southeastern region of Blue Nile state. The ministry's statement, made on the social media platform Facebook, indicated that the drone had been launched from Ethiopian territory and was flying over areas near Kurmuk.

According to Anadolu Agency, there was no immediate response from Ethiopian authorities regarding the incident. Earlier in the month, the Sudanese army reported the downing of three FH-95 drones in North Kordofan state, located in the southern part of the country.

Sudanese authorities, along with human rights organizations, have in the past accused the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) of targeting civilian infrastructure. However, the RSF often refrains from commenting on such allegations, maintaining that its operations are aimed at protecting civilians.

Aside from the Blue Nile and Darfur regions, the three Kordofan states-North, West, and South Kordofan-have experienced ongoing clashes between the army and the RSF since October 25, 2025. The conflict in Sudan, which erupted in April 2023, has resulted in tens of thousands of deaths and the displacement of approximately 13 million people, based on estimates from the United Nations and other international bodies.
