Sudanese Army Captures Key Area in Blue Nile State Amid Ongoing Conflict

Khartoum: The Sudanese army announced on Tuesday that it has gained control of the Fashfoun area in Blue Nile state following significant clashes with the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and the Sudan People's Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N). This victory marks a crucial development in the ongoing conflict that has ravaged the nation since April 2023.

According to Anadolu Agency, the army's statement detailed that forces from the 4th Infantry Division's 13th Brigade, supported by Special Operations units, successfully "cleared" Fashfoun after what was described as a "decisive battle." The confrontation led to considerable losses in both personnel and equipment for the opposing forces. The military is currently engaged in continued operations to secure the area, pursue remaining RSF fighters, and restore stability.

This latest advancement comes shortly after the army recaptured the strategic border town of Al-Kurmuk on July 8. The Sudanese army maintains control over large portions of Blue Nile state, while the SPLM-N has been engaged in a long-standing fight with the government since 2011, aiming for self-rule in South Kordofan and Blue Nile regions.

The ongoing conflict, which began in April 2023 due to disputes over the integration of the RSF into the military, has resulted in one of the most severe humanitarian crises worldwide. The war has claimed tens of thousands of lives and displaced millions, exacerbating the plight of the Sudanese population.
