Al-Khuway:Kordofan: The Sudanese army announced that it shot down an FH-95 strategic drone in West Kordofan state, marking the sixth drone of this type downed in the Kordofan region within a month.
According to Anadolu Agency, the army stated that its air defenses intercepted the 'hostile drone' northwest of Al-Khuway in West Kordofan on Monday morning. This is part of a series of interceptions, with the army previously reporting the downing of five FH-95 drones in North Kordofan, the latest of which occurred on September 27.
The FH-95 is a Chinese-made unmanned aerial vehicle designed for reconnaissance, surveillance, and electronic warfare missions, capable of staying airborne for over 12 hours. The Sudanese authorities have accused the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) of using drones in attacks on civilian facilities. However, the RSF typically does not respond to these accusations and asserts its commitment to protecting civilians.
The ongoing conflict between the Sudanese army and the RSF, which began in April 2023, stems from disagreements over the integration of the paramilitary group into the military. This conflict has resulted in tens of thousands of deaths and the displacement of approximately 13 million people, based on UN and international estimates.
