Khartoum: The Sudanese army announced that it has successfully regained control of strategic areas in the Blue Nile state after engaging in battles with the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and the Sudan People's Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N).

According to Anadolu Agency, the military spokesperson, Nabil Abdullah, confirmed in a statement that the army cleared the Baldagu area and its surroundings in southern Blue Nile state of RSF militia and SPLM-North fighters. However, there has been no immediate response from either the RSF or the SPLM-North regarding the army's statement.

The Sudanese military continues to maintain control over significant portions of the Blue Nile region, where it has been engaged in conflict with the SPLM-North since 2011. The rebel group has long been advocating for autonomous governance in both the Blue Nile and South Kordofan states.

In a separate announcement, the army reported the destruction of a 'large force' of RSF fighters in Dilling, the second-largest city in South Kordofan. The military also released video footage on its official Facebook page, purportedly showing residents of Dilling celebrating alongside army troops.

This ongoing conflict between the RSF and the army, which began in April 2023, has resulted in thousands of deaths and has plunged Sudan into one of the most severe humanitarian crises globally, with millions displaced from their homes.
