Ankara: The Sudanese government has expressed its willingness to work in collaboration with the United Nations to secure peace and ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid across the nation. This declaration of cooperation was made during a meeting in Port Sudan between Prime Minister Kamil Idris and UN Secretary-General's envoy, Algerian diplomat Ramtane Lamamra.

According to Anadolu Agency, the meeting addressed the political, security, and humanitarian situation following recent tragic events in El-Fasher, attributed to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). The Sudanese News Agency (SUNA) reported that the Prime Minister emphasized the government's readiness to coordinate with the UN to achieve peace and to facilitate the delivery of much-needed humanitarian aid.

The Prime Minister also informed the UN envoy about the current political and security challenges in Sudan and reiterated the government's intention to cooperate with international organizations. This cooperation will be guided by a roadmap developed by the Sudanese government.

Ramtane Lamamra acknowledged the UN's appreciation for Sudan's efforts and highlighted the severity of the humanitarian crisis, labeling it as one of the world's most significant. The UN had previously reported that the ongoing conflict between the Sudanese army and the RSF has jeopardized the food security of 21.2 million people.

The conflict, which began escalating in April 2023, has resulted in thousands of deaths and displacement of millions. The RSF's recent seizure of El-Fasher has drawn accusations of civilian massacres from rights groups. Despite efforts by regional and international mediators, a resolution to the conflict remains elusive.
