Supreme Election Council releases final results of presidential runoff vote

The President of the Supreme Election Council (YSK), Ahmet Yener, has announced that the final results of the second round of the presidential election, which took place on May 28, have been sent to the Official Gazette for official proclamation.

According to the confirmed results, Recep Tayyip Erdogan received 52.18% of the votes, while Kemal Kiliçdaroglu received 47.82%.

The voter turnout was 88.92% in the first round and 85.79% in the second round.

In a historical first, Turkey organized second round elections on May 14 after no candidate reached the required threshold of over 50% of the votes in the initial round.

Erdogan, who previously served as PM from 2002 to 2014 and has held the position of President since then, secured his presidency for another term, extending his rule to over 20 years.

Erdogan was nominated by the People’s Alliance, which includes his own party, the AKP, as well as the MHP, BBP, HÜDA PAR, New Welfare Party, and DSP.

On the other hand, Kiliçdaroglu was the candidate of the Nation’s Alliance, comprising his party, the CHP, along with IYI Party, DEVA Party, Future Party, Felicity Party, and Democratic Party. Additionally, the Labor and Freedom Alliance, formed by the Green Left Party and socialist parties, also supported Kiliçdaroglu in the presidential elections.

Sinan Ogan, who finished third in the initial round of elections, publicly expressed his support for Erdogan in the second round. The Zafer Party, which nominated Ogan as their candidate, endorsed Kiliçdaroglu.

Yesterday, the YSK released the final results of the parliamentary vote on May 14.

Free Cause Party (HÜDA PAR) (3 MPs) and Democratic Left Party (DSP)

(1 MP) ran in the election under the AKP’s banner.

Participation

55,442,588 out of 64,145,504 registered voters cast votes in the election.

Domestic participation rate was 88.92%, overseas participation rate was 53.80%, and overall participation rate was 87.05%.
