Vancouver: A local resident, identified as Lo, has been charged with murder following a tragic car ramming incident at a Vancouver festival that claimed the lives of 11 individuals. The incident occurred during the celebration of Lapu Lapu Day, an annual event honoring Lapu-Lapu, an indigenous chief from Mactan in the Philippines, known for his resistance against Spanish colonization in the 1500s. Lo was apprehended at the scene by police after bystanders and witnesses managed to detain him.

According to Anadolu Agency, the police have stated that the charge assessment is ongoing, with further charges anticipated against the suspect. Lo has already appeared in court and is currently in custody. The attack not only resulted in the loss of lives, ranging in age from 5 to 65, but also left more than two dozen individuals injured.

Authorities have expressed confidence that the incident was not an act of terrorism. In response to the tragedy, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney conveyed that all Canadians were shocked and heartbroken. Interim Police Chief Steve Rai described the event as "the darkest day in our city's history."
