Sweden Closes Sexual Harassment Investigation Against Mbappe Due to Insufficient Evidence

STOCKHOLM: Swedish prosecutors have closed the preliminary investigation into allegations of sexual harassment against Kylian Mbappe, the French soccer star currently playing for Real Madrid. The decision was announced by senior prosecutor Marina Chirakova, who cited a lack of sufficient evidence to proceed with the case. According to Anadolu Agency, the investigation initially focused on allegations of rape and two cases of sexual harassment against Mbappe during his visit to Stockholm in October. However, Chirakova stated that the evidence gathered was not sufficient to continue with the investigation, particularly after the plaintiff decided not to participate further. 'During the course of the investigation, there has been a designated person reasonably suspected of rape and two cases of sexual harassment, but my assessment is that the evidence is not sufficient to proceed further and the investigation is therefore closed," Chirakova explained in a statement. The statement further indicated that the evi dence collected was inadequate to complete the investigation, and no additional investigative measures were likely to alter the current state of the evidence decisively. Mbappe's legal team had previously dismissed the allegations as "false" when they first emerged. The investigation's closure marks the end of legal scrutiny for the 25-year-old athlete regarding the incidents alleged in Stockholm.
