Stockholm: The Swedish government on Wednesday announced the expulsion of an official at the Iranian embassy in Sweden. The Foreign Ministry summoned Iran's ambassador to inform them that the official at the Iranian mission was asked to leave the country.

According to Anadolu Agency, the expulsion is linked to "activities that are not compatible with the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations," as stated by the government. Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard emphasized that the decision was made to safeguard Swedish citizens and interests.

Separately, Justice Minister Gunnar Strommer informed broadcaster SVT that there is knowledge of Iran conducting security-threatening activities in and against Sweden for an extended period.
