Doha:Istanbul Sweden's parliament has voted against Center Party leader Elisabeth Thand Ringqvist's attempt to become prime minister. A total of 324 lawmakers opposed her nomination, while 25 supported it, based on reports from Swedish media.
According to Anadolu Agency – English, all 25 Center Party lawmakers voted in favor of Ringqvist, and the remaining members of parliament voted against her. Parliamentary Speaker Andreas Norlen had initially tasked Ringqvist with exploring the possibility of forming a government that included parties from both of the country's political blocs.
Following the unsuccessful vote, Norlen assigned Moderate Party leader Ulf Kristersson to explore the possibility of forming a government. Ringqvist confirmed that she met with Left Party leader Nooshi Dadgostar and other leaders of the red-green parties to discuss politics. Expressen reported on these meetings, citing sources.
Dadgostar did not confirm whether the four red-green party leaders had held joint talks during the government formation process but stated that the Center Party would need to choose a side. Meanwhile, Moderate Party parliamentary group leader Mattias Karlsson expressed skepticism about the Center Party joining a right-wing government and noted that Kristersson would explore potential options during his assignment.
