Islamabad: Technical-level talks between the US and Iran are expected to commence in Switzerland "in a day or two," according to Pakistani government sources who informed Anadolu on Saturday. Pakistan, along with other mediators, is actively engaging with both sides as they prepare to meet in Switzerland to initiate the next phase of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding.

According to Anadolu Agency, Pakistan's Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has traveled to Tehran to discuss the upcoming phase of negotiations with Iranian leadership. This development comes after Iran postponed the technical-level talks with the US in response to continued Israeli ceasefire violations in Lebanon.

The prior signing of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding by US President Donald Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian laid the groundwork for these direct talks in Switzerland. Initially scheduled to start on Friday, the talks aim to launch a 60-day negotiation period.

The backdrop to these negotiations includes a ceasefire secured on April 8, followed by Pakistan hosting the highest-level direct talks between the US and Iran on April 12-13, marking the most significant dialogue since the nations severed diplomatic ties in 1979.
