Damascus:Syrian Airlines has announced plans to double its fleet to 12 aircraft and expand its reach to 25 destinations by the end of 2026. The national carrier is undertaking a significant expansion and modernization initiative, which includes unveiling a new visual identity at Damascus International Airport. The first aircraft featuring the new livery is already in service.
According to Anadolu Agency, the airline began the year serving nine destinations and has since added flights to Amsterdam, Vienna, Copenhagen, and Moscow. Anwar Akkad, CEO of the Syrian Aviation Holding Company, stated that additional routes will be revealed soon, with the aim to cover 25 destinations by the end of the year.
Currently operating six aircraft, Syrian Airlines is working to double this number through a fleet renewal program. As part of this effort, the airline received the first two of eight Airbus A320-family aircraft in August.
In addition to expanding its fleet, Syrian Airlines is overhauling its digital services, including booking systems, payment methods, and other passenger-facing platforms. Akkad announced that a new reservation system, which complies with international standards, is expected to launch in early November. The airline has also launched a new website, and is developing mobile and self-service options for passengers.
Omar al-Hosari, head of the Civil Aviation and Air Transport Authority, noted that these efforts are part of a broader plan to rebuild Syria's aviation sector, enhance passenger services, and re-establish the country's connections with international aviation networks.
In support of these goals, Syrian authorities signed a $4 billion agreement in November 2025 with an international consortium to develop, expand, and operate Damascus International Airport. The deal includes $250 million for aircraft purchases and support for the national carrier's fleet expansion.
