Aleppo: The Syrian Army announced the successful completion of a comprehensive security sweep in the Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhood of Aleppo, amidst escalating tensions with the YPG/SDF terror group. According to Anadolu Agency, the Syrian Army's Operations Command has urged civilians within the neighborhood to remain indoors due to the presence of SDF and PKK elements among them. The Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported that civilians are encouraged to contact forces for emergencies or to report suspicious activities. SANA cited an unnamed source who stated that Internal Security Forces, in coordination with army units, have commenced search and security operations in the neighborhood. Furthermore, Aleppo's Internal Security Commander, Mohammad Abdul Ghani, was reported to have toured the area and engaged with local residents. The state-run Syrian Alikhbaria channel confirmed the deployment of security forces in the eastern part of Sheikh Maqsoud, following the Operations Command's declaration that the a rea had been fully swept. Aleppo Governor Azzam al-Gharib emphasized that authorities are working continuously to stabilize security and restore normalcy in the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighborhoods. He communicated through a post on US social media company X, urging residents to adhere to official instructions. Al-Gharib noted that movement restrictions are still in effect, and he advised displaced residents to coordinate with the Aleppo Response Committee before returning to the neighborhood. The governor reiterated the continuation of the curfew until further notice. The escalation began with the YPG/SDF group's attacks on Tuesday, which targeted residential areas, civilian facilities, and Syrian Army positions in Aleppo. These attacks resulted in nine fatalities and 55 injuries and caused approximately 165,000 residents to flee from the Ashrafieh and Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhoods. On March 10, 2025, the Syrian presidency announced an agreement for the SDF's integration into state institutions, high lighting the country's commitment to territorial unity. However, authorities noted that the YPG/SDF has not taken steps to fulfill the agreement's terms. The government has been intensifying security measures across the nation following the ouster of the Assad regime in December 2024 after 24 years in power.
