Hasakah: The Syrian army has declared Al-Hol camp and its surrounding region in northeastern Syria a closed security zone, following the recent takeover from the YPG terror group. This announcement comes after the army implemented enhanced precautionary measures in the area.
According to Anadolu Agency, the army’s Operations Directorate issued a circular that included a map marking the restricted zone. The circular highlights that the area around Al-Hol camp is now a closed security zone, with a specific security route identified for transit purposes, marked in green, where stopping is not permitted.
On January 21, Syria’s Interior Ministry classified Al-Hol camp and other security detention facilities previously controlled by the YPG as prohibited areas. The army increased its security presence in and around the camp after assuming control on January 20, with the situation remaining stable in the region.
Al-Hol camp, located in Hasakah province, was originally set up to accommodate individuals displaced by conflicts after the US-led invasion of Iraq in 2003. Earlier reports from Syrian media indicated that Damascus and the YPG have reached a new ceasefire and integration agreement, which includes the phased incorporation of the YPG’s military and administrative entities into Syrian state institutions.
