Syrian Foreign Minister Meets with US Envoy in Riyadh

Riyadh: Syria's Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani met on Monday with US envoy Tom Barrack in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, the Syrian Foreign Ministry announced.

According to Anadolu Agency, the meeting occurred during a gathering of political directors from the US-led international coalition against the ISIS (Daesh) terror group. The Syrian Foreign Ministry shared this information on the US social media platform X but did not provide additional details about the meeting's content.

On the preceding Sunday, Shaibani, accompanied by Syria's intelligence chief Hussein al-Salama, arrived in Riyadh to participate in the coalition meeting. Syria formally joined the anti-ISIS coalition in November of the previous year. The coalition, established in 2014, has been conducting military operations against the terrorist group in Syria and Iraq, though Damascus was not a member until recently.

The new Syrian administration, which came into power following the fall of the Bashar al-Assad regime in late 2024, has been actively working to enhance security conditions across the country.
