Beirut: Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan is set to meet with Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Hassan al-Shaibani, who will arrive in Trkiye on Thursday for a working visit.

According to Anadolu Agency, al-Shaibani's visit aims to facilitate discussions on enhancing stability and security in Syria, a priority supported by Trkiye. During the meeting, Fidan will evaluate the progress of multifaceted efforts in Syria and highlight the steady improvement in Syria's counterterrorism capabilities. He will stress Ankara's commitment to deepening coordination with Syria in this area.

Fidan is anticipated to discuss the institutionalization of cooperation between Trkiye and Syria, which has progressed since December 2024 across sectors like economy, security, social reconciliation, and reconstruction. The ministers will also review plans for upcoming high-level visits, emphasizing the need to incorporate a parliamentary aspect into their bilateral relations. This follows the recent launch of activities by the Syrian People's Assembly, marking an acceleration in Syria's state institutionalization.

The discussions will also cover developments regarding the integration of northeastern Syria into the central government, a topic of significant concern for Trkiye. Fidan will voice opposition to Israel's policies that undermine Syrian stability efforts and stress the importance of Syria's continued normalization without entering another conflict cycle.

Fidan is expected to call for an end to Israel's attacks in Gaza, with international community support, despite progress towards the second phase of the Peace Plan. He will emphasize that ending Israel's occupation in southern Lebanon is crucial for regional security and stability.

In his dialogue with al-Shaibani, Fidan will reaffirm Trkiye's backing for diplomatic initiatives aimed at securing a ceasefire between the US and Iran, reopening the Strait of Hormuz swiftly, and achieving lasting peace in the region.
