London: Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani began an official visit to the UK on Wednesday, marking the first such trip in decades. "Under the guidance of President Ahmad al-Sharaa, we are traveling to the United Kingdom on our first official visit," Shaibani announced on the US social media platform X. He emphasized the mission's significance by stating, "We carry with us the hopes and aspirations of the Syrian people to build a nation that safeguards the future of our children and generations to come."

According to Anadolu Agency, Shaibani is set to engage in discussions with several British officials during his visit. However, the specifics of his agenda remain undisclosed by the Foreign Ministry. This visit forms a part of the new Syrian administration's strategy to end the nation's international isolation, a legacy of the former regime led by Bashar al-Assad.

This diplomatic engagement follows closely on the heels of President Sharaa's recent visit to the White House, where he met with US President Donald Trump. Earlier in October, Sharaa also conducted talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Kremlin. These diplomatic efforts coincide with the removal of sanctions on Sharaa by the US and UK on November 7, following a similar decision by the UN Security Council.
