Syrian President and US Envoy Discuss Regional Developments in Damascus

Damascus:Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa engaged in discussions with US envoy Tom Barrack in Damascus on Wednesday to deliberate on the current developments in Syria and the broader region.

According to Anadolu Agency – English, the meeting took place at the People's Palace and included the presence of Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani. The discussions focused on "cooperation and coordination on a number of issues of mutual interest, serving the interests of both countries and contributing to enhancing security and stability," as stated by the Syrian presidency. However, specific issues discussed during the meeting were not disclosed.

The meeting comes in the wake of the United States' recent removal of Syria's designation as a 'state sponsor of terrorism.' Additionally, Washington has revoked its designation of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham as a specially designated global terrorist entity and has removed the group from the Office of Foreign Assets Control's sanctions list. Earlier actions by the US include the lifting of sanctions on Syria under an executive order issued in June 2025, following the ouster of Bashar al-Assad's regime in December 2024.
