Nairobi: President Ahmed al-Sharaa inaugurated the first Syria International Textile Exhibition, NAS TEX 2026, marking a significant step towards Syria's reconstruction efforts. The event, held at the Conference Palace in Damascus, saw the presence of government officials, international delegations, business leaders, and representatives from the economic sector.
According to Anadolu Agency, President al-Sharaa emphasized the historical significance of the textile industry in Syria, highlighting its role in the country's economic and cultural identity. He stated that the revival of this sector would be crucial in rebuilding modern Syria, leveraging its rich industrial and artisanal heritage. The president described the exhibition as a "creative starting point" to combat poverty, support reconstruction, and generate employment opportunities for Syrians.
Al-Sharaa further outlined the foundation of Syria's reconstruction, which is based on civil peace, national unity, and economic growth. He reiterated Syria's commitment to establishing balanced international relations and consolidating peace.
Economy Minister Mohammad Nidal al-Shaar underscored that NAS TEX is more than just an exhibition; it is a testament to Syria's potential resurgence as a regional hub for production, industry, and trade. He spoke about the resilience of the textile sector, which has long been a cornerstone of Syria's economy, and its global reputation for quality and craftsmanship. The minister shared his vision of fostering an open investment environment and enhancing Syria's export capabilities.
Fadi al-Muhaimid, founder and chairman of the exhibition's higher organizing committee, highlighted the significance of NAS TEX as the largest textile industry gathering in the region. He emphasized the importance of production strength and innovation in shaping Syria's future.
The exhibition, running from July 18 to 21, aims to rejuvenate Syria's textile industry by connecting it with technology, financing, and export markets. Spanning an area of 150,000 square meters, it features over 300 exhibitors from more than 25 countries, showcasing a range of products and technologies.
This initiative comes in the wake of significant political changes in Syria, with President al-Sharaa assuming leadership for a transitional period after the end of Baath Party rule. As Syria moves towards rebuilding, NAS TEX 2026 represents a pivotal moment in the nation's efforts to regain its economic prowess and cultural heritage.
