Damascus: Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani met with US Special Envoy to Syria Thomas Barrack to discuss regional developments and explore ways to enhance joint cooperation. The meeting is part of ongoing efforts by Washington to ease tensions between Syria and Israel.
According to Anadolu Agency, Syria's Foreign Ministry released a statement indicating that the discussions focused on mutual cooperation to serve the common interests of Damascus and Washington. However, specific details regarding the nature of the talks or the issues addressed were not disclosed.
The meeting occurred shortly after US President Donald Trump issued a warning to Israel about the importance of maintaining stability in Syria. Trump emphasized the need for Israel to engage in constructive dialogue with Syria, aiming to avoid any actions that could hinder Syria's progress towards becoming a prosperous state. He communicated this message on his Truth Social platform and followed up with a conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
President Trump also commended Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa, acknowledging his efforts towards fostering positive developments for both Syria and Israel.
