Beijing: China on Thursday urged the US to stop interfering in its internal affairs, stating that Taiwan has no "ground, reason, or right" to join the UN or other bodies reserved for sovereign states. "Taiwan does not have any ground, reason, or right to join the UN or any international organizations whose membership is confined to sovereign states," said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning during a live-streamed news conference in Beijing.

According to Anadolu Agency, Mao emphasized that there is only one China in the world, with Taiwan being an inalienable part of China's territory. She stated that the country's governance is the "sole legal governance representing the whole of China."

Beijing has called on the US to adhere to the one-China principle and the three China-US Joint Communiques, urging Washington to observe international law and basic norms of international relations. Mao requested the US to cease its interference in China's internal affairs regarding Taiwan and to stop sending what she termed as wrong signals to Taiwan independence separatist forces.

Mao's comments were made in light of the US House of Representatives passing the Taiwan Non-Discrimination Act last month. This act mandates the US governor of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to support Taiwan's admission and participation in the fund, as well as its ability to receive training, assistance, and employment opportunities.
