Tel aviv: At least 10 people were killed and 10 others were wounded in a shooting at a tavern in Bekkersdal township, west of Johannesburg, South Africa's police announced on Sunday.

According to Anadolu Agency, the attack took place overnight at the KwaNoxolo tavern in the Tambo section. Unknown gunmen opened fire on patrons inside the venue and on people gathered outside. The injured were rushed to nearby hospitals for medical attention.

Police confirmed the fatalities and indicated that officers remained at the scene as investigations continued. Multiple units have been deployed to handle the situation.

Gauteng Acting Police Commissioner Fred Kekana stated that various teams, including the national crime and management team, provincial crime scene management team, and serious crime investigating team, are present at the scene to conduct a thorough investigation.
