Bangkok: Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra Wednesday survived a no-confidence motion, securing the support of 319 lawmakers in the 493-seat lower house of the parliament. Some 162 lawmakers voted against the Pheu Thai Party leader, who was elected the 31st prime minister last August.

According to Anadolu Agency, Paetongtarn expressed her gratitude and commitment on X, stating, 'Every vote, whether in support or against, will serve as motivation for me and the Cabinet to remain committed to working for our fellow citizens moving forward.' The 38-year-old leader is determined to continue her work with renewed vigor following the parliamentary vote.

Paetongtarn Shinawatra is not only the current prime minister but also a prominent figure from the influential Shinawatra family. Her father, Thaksin Shinawatra, and her aunt, Yingluck Shinawatra, have both previously held the prime ministerial position in Thailand. Her leadership marks her as the third member of her family to assume this role, continuing their political legacy.

In order to secure the position of prime minister in Thailand, a candidate needs to garner at least 247 votes. Paetongtarn's successful navigation of the no-confidence motion further solidifies her standing as the leader of the Southeast Asian nation.
