Bangkok: Protesters gathered at the Victory Monument in Bangkok on Saturday, demanding the immediate resignation of suspended Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra. The demonstration saw around 1,000 participants voicing their discontent with the current political situation.

According to Anadolu Agency, the protest was sparked by recent tensions along the Thai-Cambodian border and a leaked phone call between Paetongtarn and former Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen in June. The Constitutional Court is set to deliver a verdict in the coming weeks on a petition that seeks Paetongtarn's removal from office on ethical grounds, following her suspension over the controversial conversation.

During the call, Paetongtarn referred to the former Cambodian leader as "uncle" and criticized a Thai military commander, actions that fueled public anger and led to the petition for her dismissal. Protesters are urging Paetongtarn to resign immediately, without waiting for the court's decision, and are calling on coalition parties to withdraw from the Pheu Thai Party-led government.

Pichit Chaimongkol, a protest leader, accused Paetongtarn of compromising national security. Many of those who joined Saturday's protest had also participated in a larger rally on June 28, where various groups united in demanding Paetongtarn's removal.

The situation has further strained ties between Thailand and Cambodia, with recent tensions escalating into five days of cross-border airstrikes and rocket fire, resulting in numerous casualties before a ceasefire was reached on July 28.
