Ankara: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has declared that individuals acting "insolently" towards the Prophet Muhammad and other prophets will face legal consequences. This statement follows an incident involving a controversial cartoon published by satirical magazine Leman.

According to Anadolu Agency, the June 26 edition of Leman featured a cartoon alluding to the Israel-Iran conflict, showing the Prophet Muhammad and the Prophet Moses shaking hands over a city in ruins. Erdogan condemned the cartoon as a "clear, vile provocation" disguised as humor. He emphasized that Turkey's security and judiciary officials have taken immediate action by confiscating the magazine and initiating necessary legal processes.

Erdogan also criticized those displaying disrespect towards the Prophet Muhammad, labeling them as "immoral" and "devoid of this nation's values and decency." He made these remarks during a meeting with the ruling Justice and Development (AK) Party's provincial heads, urging the youth to maintain their composure and not let anger cloud their judgment.

The publication of the cartoon has led to significant public outrage. Social media footage shows large crowds of protesters gathering outside Leman's Istanbul office, with some attempting to force entry. In Islam, visual depictions of prophets, including both the Prophet Muhammad and the Prophet Moses, are strictly prohibited.

Erdogan assured that as long as his party remains in power, insults to sacred values will not be tolerated, underscoring the government's commitment to upholding religious respect and legality in such matters.
