Raqqa:Three Syrian soldiers were injured on Wednesday by a mine explosion while they were working to remove mines in the northeastern region of Raqqa province.

According to Anadolu Agency, the incident took place in the village of Al-Hurriya in the Tal Abyad area of northern Raqqa. The soldiers, part of the Military Engineering Administration, sustained injuries of varying degrees from the explosion.

The Media and Communications Administration at the Defense Ministry reported the incident but did not provide details regarding the nature of the soldiers' injuries or the origin of the mine.

Despite the end of Syria's 14-year civil war, unexploded ordnance and old munitions continue to pose significant risks to civilians. The Landmine Monitor states that at least 13,953 people have been killed or injured by mines and explosive remnants of war in Syria from 1999 to 2024, although actual figures might be higher due to challenges in documentation.
