The total population of 27 EU member states increased to 449.2 million in 2024, according to data from the EU's statistical bureau, Eurostat, on Thursday. The EU's population growth was driven by post-COVID-19 migration and Ukrainians receiving temporary protection status. Germany is the most populous member of the EU with 83.4 million inhabitants, while the least populous countries are Malta with 563,000 and Luxembourg with 672,000, the data showed.
