London:Tottenham Hotspur achieved their first Premier League win of the season on Monday by defeating newly promoted Coventry City 3-1 in the final match of Week 7.
According to Anadolu Agency, Roberto De Zerbi's team started the match at the bottom of the league standings with just three points from six games, marking one of their worst starts to a season.
Coventry began the game with strong offensive pressure. Tatsuhiro Sakamoto delivered a threatening cross in the seventh minute, which almost led to an own goal before Tottenham's goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky secured the ball. Shortly after, Sakamoto's shot was deflected over the crossbar following a play with Brandon Thomas-Asante.
Despite Coventry's initial dominance, Tottenham took the lead in the 14th minute with a goal from James Maddison. Mohammed Kudus set up the opportunity by racing down the right flank and passing to Maddison, who scored a powerful right-footed strike from outside the penalty area, ending his 610-day Premier League goal drought.
Coventry equalized early in the second half when Jack Rudoni capitalized on deflections within Tottenham's penalty area to score. However, Tottenham quickly regained the lead in the 58th minute through Omar Marmoush, who netted his first goal for the club.
Ben Davies was substituted in the 69th minute after Andrew Robertson sustained an injury. Dejan Kulusevski made his return to the field after a long absence due to a knee injury, replacing Marmoush later in the half. Mathys Tel almost extended Tottenham's lead during stoppage time, but his shot went just wide.
In the sixth minute of stoppage time, Davies secured the victory for Tottenham. After Coventry failed to clear a cross from Tel, Dominic Solanke set up Davies, who scored with a low shot that slipped under Coventry's goalkeeper Carl Rushworth.
The victory moved Tottenham to 16th in the Premier League standings with six points. Coventry, managed by Frank Lampard, dropped to 17th place, also with six points.
