Ankara: Turkish Basketball Federation President Hidayet Turkoglu announced that Trkiye's primary focus is on securing a spot in the 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup in Qatar, following the national men's basketball team's recent accomplishments.
According to Anadolu Agency, Turkoglu highlighted the Turkish men's national team's impressive unbeaten run of 6-0 in the first round of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 European Qualifiers as a key milestone. He noted the significance of the team's achievement as European runners-up in EuroBasket 2025 and expressed pride in their flawless group stage performance. He congratulated the head coach and players, emphasizing that the team's success has fueled greater ambitions.
Turkoglu expressed confidence in the squad's potential, underscoring the strong team chemistry and the willingness of players from the NBA, EuroLeague, and Turkish League to join the national team post-club seasons. He anticipated starting preparations for the August games with a robust and complete team, acknowledging the players' dedication and fighting spirit.
He also acknowledged the successful representation of Turkish clubs in European competitions and supported their involvement in the proposed NBA Europe project. Turkoglu highlighted the importance of Turkish clubs participating in FIBA competitions, wishing them success in representing the country.
Moreover, Turkoglu urged basketball fans to support the Turkish women's national team at the 2026 FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup, scheduled to take place in Berlin, Germany, from September 4-13.
