Trkiye an ‘Incredibly Important Strategic’ Ally for Canada: Premier

Toronto: Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney on Thursday described Trkiye as a key NATO ally and a major regional power, saying Ottawa is actively working to deepen bilateral ties. "Trkiye is an incredibly important strategic, it's a NATO ally," Carney told reporters at a news conference in Toronto.

According to Anadolu Agency, Carney highlighted Trkiye's regional significance, emphasizing its role from the Balkans through to the Middle East to the Caucasus and beyond. He referred to Trkiye as one of the most important strategic partners or powers in this expansive region. Carney noted that efforts to strengthen the relationship with Trkiye are underway, acknowledging that it is still in the early stages.

Carney also confirmed his plans to travel to Trkiye for the upcoming NATO summit next month. He mentioned the possibility of visiting the country again later this year as part of the ongoing process to enhance bilateral ties. The Canadian government is currently evaluating ways to further develop the relationship with Trkiye, underscoring its importance on the strategic front.
