Ankara: Trkiye's Scientific and Technological Research Institution and China's National Natural Science Foundation have announced a joint venture to explore the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in the fields of medicine and agriculture. The collaboration will focus on cancer research, magnetic resonance imaging, and agricultural sustainability projects.
According to Anadolu Agency, the two organizations have called for bilateral cooperation on several research projects, including the 'Cancer Immunotherapy and Clinical Translation Research.' This initiative aims to develop medical treatments like drugs and vaccines to boost the immune system's ability to combat cancer cells. Researchers from both countries will engage in oncology studies leveraging large-scale data sets and AI technologies.
The research partnership will also explore advancements in 'Magnetic Resonance Imaging and Ultrasonic Medicine.' This study will employ AI to enhance the development of magnetic resonance technologies for creating three-dimensional anatomical images. Additionally, the "Green and Sustainable Agriculture" project will align with the European Green Deal, focusing on ensuring food security and mitigating the environmental impact of the EU food system. Trkiye and the EU are collaborating on this initiative.
The call for research proposals mandates collaboration between researchers from Trkiye and China, with no unilateral applications accepted. Interested parties must submit their applications to Trkiye's Scientific and Technological Research Institution website by May 30. The funding limits are set at 3 million Turkish liras ($79,000) for Turkish partners and 5 million Turkish liras (1 million Chinese yuan or $131,660) for Chinese partners.
Eight projects are slated for funding, each with a maximum duration of 36 months. Turkish research partners will have an annual international visit cap of 60 days. The participating scientific research institutions will cover expenses for travel, accommodation, and other costs as per their regulations. Project proposals will be assessed based on scientific and technological merit, methodology, project management, the significance of bilateral cooperation, and potential impact.
