Ankara: President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim have overseen the signing of 11 agreements, highlighting a significant step forward in the diplomatic and economic relations between Trkiye and Malaysia. These agreements were formalized following detailed one-on-one and interdelegation discussions during the Malaysian Prime Minister's official visit.
According to Anadolu Agency, the agreements cover a broad range of sectors, reflecting the diverse areas of cooperation between the two nations. A key exchange of letters centered on energy transition, signed by Turkish Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar and Malaysia's Deputy Prime Minister and Energy and Water Transformation Minister Fadillah Yusof, marks a commitment to work together in the field of sustainable energy.
Another notable agreement includes a memorandum of understanding on disaster and emergency management, along with diplomatic notes exchanged concerning cooperation between the diplomatic academies of both countries. These were signed by Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and his Malaysian counterpart Mohamad Hasan.
Defense cooperation was also reinforced with the signing of implementation rules for a joint committee on the procurement of defense products. This was facilitated by Defense Industries Secretariat head Haluk Gorgun and Mohamed Khaled Nordin, Malaysia's defense minister. Further strategic cooperation in communication systems was cemented through an exchange of diplomatic notes between the Turkish Defense Industries Secretariat and Malaysia's National Security Council.
Additionally, a memorandum of understanding focusing on smart city, traffic, and security system solutions was signed with Selangor Aviation and Technology Innovation. This agreement was ratified by Gorgun and Amirudin Bin Shari, chief minister of the Selangor state government, indicating a shared interest in technological advancements.
Consumer protection and market surveillance were also addressed through a memorandum of understanding between the Turkish Trade Ministry and Malaysia's Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry. This was signed by Turkish Trade Minister Omer Bolat and Malaysia's minister of domestic trade and cost of living, Armizan Bin Mohd Ali.
The agreements also extended to maritime collaboration, with a letter of preliminary acceptance for the procurement of a multi-purpose mission ship between Desan Shipyard and Malaysia's Home Affairs Ministry. This was signed by Desan Chair Cenk Ismail Kaptanoglu and Awang Alik Bin Jeman, the secretary-general of Malaysia's Home Ministry.
In the realm of media, a letter of intent on audiovisual media services was signed between the Turkish Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTUK) and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC). This agreement was concluded by RTUK Chair Ebubekir Sahin and MCMC Chair Tan Sri Mohamad Salim Bin Fateh Din, showcasing a commitment to enhancing media services.
Lastly, a memorandum of understanding was established between Anadolu and the Malaysian National News Agency, laying the groundwork for future media cooperation. This agreement was signed by Anadolu's President and CEO Serdar Karagoz and Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin, the agency's executive chair.
