Ankara: Trkiye and Moldova have engaged in discussions to strengthen their economic and strategic ties, particularly in the realms of trade, defense technologies, and investment, as stated by Turkish Trade Minister Omer Bolat on Thursday.
According to Anadolu Agency, Bolat held meetings with Moldovan Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economic Development and Digitalization, Eugen Osmochescu, and Defense Minister Anatolie Nosatii at the Trade Ministry in Ankara. This visit marked the inaugural Trkiye-Moldova Defense Industry Cooperation Meeting.
During the discussions, both parties evaluated measures to boost bilateral trade, extend strategic alliances within the defense industry and technology sectors, and enhance mutual investments. Bolat shared these developments on the Turkish social media platform NSosyal. The dialogue also included a commitment to expand the 2016 Free Trade Agreement after surpassing $1 billion in bilateral trade by 2025.
Trkiye expressed a strong commitment to advancing economic and strategic cooperation with Moldova through a shared vision and robust political resolve, as emphasized by Bolat. He referred to Moldova as a friend and strategic partner, asserting that both countries are determined to continue their long-standing relationship through tangible actions.
In a separate event, the first Defense Industry Cooperation Meeting between Trkiye and Moldova took place in Ankara, marking a significant step towards formalizing bilateral cooperation in this sector. The meeting was attended by Moldova's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economic Development and Digitalization Eugeniu Osmochescu, Defense Minister Anatolie Nosatii, and Trkiye's Defense Industries Secretary Haluk Gorgun, as reported by Gorgun on NSosyal.
The discussions during the meeting focused on identifying potential cooperation areas within the defense industry and evaluating possibilities for joint projects and future collaborations. Gorgun highlighted that the meeting laid an institutional groundwork for future defense industry cooperation and would help establish priorities for joint endeavors.
