Istanbul: Turkish Defense Minister Guler and UK Defense Secretary Healey signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Wednesday, marking Trkiye's acceptance as a Eurofighter Typhoon operator. The agreement was formalized during the 17th International Defense Industry Fair (IDEF) in Istanbul.

According to Anadolu Agency, the MoU signifies a step forward in the relationship between the two nations, paving the way for a comprehensive agreement on the Eurofighter Typhoon. Both ministers regarded the signing as a crucial move towards integrating Trkiye into the Typhoon community, expressing a shared ambition to finalize the necessary arrangements swiftly.

The Defense Ministers highlighted the strong partnership between Trkiye and the UK, emphasizing the importance of their longstanding defense cooperation. This includes collaboration through NATO and strengthening ties in the defense industry and security sectors. Both parties are committed to deepening this strategic partnership in support of NATO's collective deterrence.

Progress continues on the export of the Eurofighter Typhoon, with Trkiye's inclusion as an operator seen as a significant enhancement of its combat air capabilities. This development will build on the longstanding friendship between the two key NATO Allies. The agreement marks a new chapter in the Trkiye-UK partnership, focusing on capability collaboration and mutual support in defense industries through the exchange of cutting-edge equipment.
