Cairo: Trkiye will convene an emergency meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to address Israel's plan to fully occupy Gaza, announced the nation's foreign minister at a press conference.

According to Anadolu Agency, Hakan Fidan, the Turkish Foreign Minister, emphasized the urgency of the meeting during a joint press conference with Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty. Fidan condemned Israel's intentions, stating that Trkiye rejects the plan as a continuation of Israel's expansionist policy. He assured that Trkiye and Egypt would oppose such scenarios.

Fidan criticized Israel's governance, describing it as driven by a militarist and fundamentalist mentality. He highlighted the growing global support for the Palestinian cause, noting increased pressure on Western governments to back Palestine due to public opinion.

The Turkish Foreign Minister also elaborated on Trkiye's humanitarian efforts, mentioning that approximately 102,000 tons of aid had been sent to Gaza. Fidan thanked Egypt for its cooperation in delivering the aid, involving the Egyptian Red Crescent, Turkish Red Crescent, and Trkiye's Disaster and Emergency Coordination Agency.

Fidan condemned Israel's obstruction of aid, accusing it of forcing Palestinians to abandon their land by denying essential supplies. He argued that Israel's goal was to de-Palestinize Gaza and establish its own settlers.

The Turkish Foreign Minister expressed gratitude to Abdelatty for hosting the meeting and reiterated the intention of Trkiye and Egypt to be pillars of peace and stability in the region. Fidan later met with Ahmed Aboul Gheit, the Arab League secretary-general, to further discuss the situation.

The ongoing conflict in Gaza has resulted in significant casualties, with over 61,000 people killed since October 2023. Israel faces international criticism for its actions, including an arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court for war crimes and a genocide case at the International Court of Justice.

In closing, Fidan reaffirmed Trkiye's support for Palestinian statehood, declaring that any efforts to expel Palestinians from their land are destined to fail. He vowed to uphold international law and humanitarian values against Israel's actions.
