United Nations: Trkiye's UN ambassador has urged the international community to pressure Israel into joining the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) amid escalating tensions due to Israel's military actions against Iran. During an emergency UN Security Council session, Ambassador Ahmet Yildiz condemned Israel's recent strikes, describing them as violations of the UN Charter.

According to Anadolu Agency, Yildiz highlighted the potential risks of a broader regional conflict, which could lead to nuclear or radiological dangers, mass displacement, and disruptions in global trade and energy security. He criticized Israel's actions against Iran's safeguarded nuclear facilities as unprecedented and in violation of international law and International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) agreements.

Yildiz expressed concern that Israel, a non-NPT state with opaque nuclear capabilities, is targeting the nuclear infrastructure of an NPT-compliant state. He emphasized that this undermines the global non-proliferation regime and called for collective international action to urge Israel to join the NPT and adhere to IAEA verification.

Reaffirming Trkiye's dedication to diplomacy, Yildiz insisted that diplomatic solutions remain essential. He also drew attention to the ongoing crisis in the Gaza Strip, warning that Israel's actions against Iran should not overshadow the issues faced by Palestinians. He concluded by stating that achieving peace is crucial for maintaining the UN's credibility and upholding international law.
