Ankara: Trkiye's UN representative, Ahmet Yildiz, has called for heightened international support for Syria, which he describes as being at a critical juncture in its transition. During a Security Council session on Syria, Yildiz highlighted the historic opportunity presented by the new era in Syria, emphasizing the need for the Syrian people to seize this moment.
According to Anadolu Agency, Yildiz reiterated Trkiye's commitment to providing necessary assistance to ensure a stable, united, and secure Syria. He urged the international community to increase its support to help the Syrian people navigate the challenges they face. Yildiz underscored the significance of inclusive governance in Syria, praising the new interim government for its sensible approach following the fall of the 14-year Assad regime.
Yildiz condemned recent violence in coastal areas, attributing the attacks to remnants of the former regime and warning against mischaracterizing these events as a sectarian conflict between Damascus and the Alawite community. He called for the eradication of terror groups, stating that there is no place for DAESH or PKK/YPG/SDF in Syria's future, and emphasized the necessity of eliminating these groups to achieve a politically unified Syria.
Yildiz also addressed Israel's military actions in Syria, condemning the escalations and calling on the Security Council to take decisive action. Additionally, he urged the international community to lift sanctions and increase support for humanitarian and reconstruction efforts in Syria.
