Ankara: Trkiye has finalized the bureaucratic preparations necessary to initiate direct trade with Armenia, the Foreign Ministry announced on Wednesday. This development is part of the ongoing efforts to normalize relations between the two countries.
According to Anadolu Agency, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Oncu Keceli confirmed that as of Monday, the preparations were completed as part of the confidence-building measures introduced since 2022. Keceli's statement also indicated that the technical and bureaucratic efforts to open the common border are progressing.
The new trade arrangement permits goods traveling from Trkiye to Armenia, or vice versa, to list 'Armenia/Trkiye' as their final destination or point of departure when passing through a third country. This step is seen as a significant move in enhancing economic relations between the two nations.
Keceli emphasized Trkiye's commitment to fostering economic ties and regional cooperation, which aims to benefit all countries and peoples in the South Caucasus. He remarked on the historic opportunity to solidify peace and prosperity in the region, affirming Trkiye's dedication to advancing these relations.
