Ankara: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced that Trkiye is persisting with its humanitarian aid efforts to Gaza, despite disruptions attributed to Israeli actions, emphasizing that regional security is jeopardized as long as the Palestinian occupation persists. He made these remarks following a Cabinet meeting in Ankara, stressing the need for the establishment of a Palestinian state for regional stability.
According to Anadolu Agency, Erdogan highlighted the arrival of the Turkish Red Crescent's 18th Goodwill Ship at Egypt's al-Arish port, carrying approximately 800 tons of aid destined for Gaza. This shipment includes essential supplies such as winter blankets and staple foods. The organization also continues to provide daily meals for 35,000 individuals in Gaza and supports medical operations managed by the Palestinian Red Crescent.
Erdogan pointed out the ongoing ceasefire between Hamas and Israel, noting its violations by Israel, which have resulted in significant Palestinian casualties. Since October 2023, Israeli attacks have led to over 69,000 deaths and more than 170,000 injuries in Gaza, making the region nearly uninhabitable.
Erdogan also addressed other regional matters, stating Trkiye's commitment to promoting peace and stability from Iraq to Syria. He expressed satisfaction with Syria's progress in international relations and reiterated Trkiye's support for the March 10 Accord, which aims to enhance Syria's unity and territorial integrity.
As the anniversary of Bashar al-Assad's departure approaches, Erdogan urged a focus on future cooperation rather than past conflicts. He condemned expansionist provocations in the region and reaffirmed Trkiye's dedication to dialogue with regional actors for lasting peace in Syria.
Erdogan also commented on the crash of a Turkish Air Force cargo plane near the Azerbaijan-Georgia border, assuring that an investigation is underway and findings will be transparently shared, particularly with the victims' families.
Regarding Cyprus, Erdogan discussed recent talks with Northern Cyprus President Tufan Erhurman, emphasizing their commitment to a fair resolution based on sovereign equality. Erdogan criticized attempts to revive failed proposals for Cyprus, advocating for a solution that acknowledges the realities of two states on the island.
