Ankara: Trkiye’s Communications Directorate has firmly refuted allegations that Turkish military aircraft harassed planes carrying Greek Defense Minister Nikos Dendias and other European Union officials, or that they violated Greek airspace.

According to Anadolu Agency, the directorate’s Center for Combating Disinformation (DMM) issued a statement on its NSosyal account, declaring the reports as ‘completely false.’ The statement clarified that on Sunday, four of the six aircraft traveling on the Greece-Greek Cypriot Administration route intruded into the airspace of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).

The DMM elaborated that two Turkish F-16 fighter jets, which were stationed in the TRNC for air patrol duty, were scrambled as a precautionary measure. The jets reportedly carried out their mission within TRNC airspace, with no violations of the Greek Cypriot Administration airspace and no harassment conducted against any aircraft.

Furthermore, the center addressed allegations of Turkish aircraft violating Greek airspace during flights on June 6, which were part of the 115th anniversary celebrations of the Turkish Air Force Command and the Youth and Aviation Festival. The DMM clarified that all flights were conducted within the designated flight zone of the 2nd Main Jet Base Command, ensuring that Greek airspace was not breached.

The DMM urged the public to disregard these claims, which they described as attempts to manipulate international opinion and incite tensions.
