Ankara: Trkiye on Sunday refuted allegations that a Turkish Airlines flight avoided landing in Libya over fears of retaliation following a recent crash involving a Libyan military delegation's aircraft near Ankara.

According to Anadolu Agency, Trkiye's Center for Combating Disinformation (DMM) clarified on the Turkish social media platform NSosyal that the diversion of the TK641 Istanbul-Benghazi flight on December 24, 2025, was due solely to wind conditions at the destination airport exceeding operational limits. The DMM emphasized that no other factors influenced the route change.

The statement further assured that flights to Libya proceeded as planned in the subsequent days without any interruptions. The DMM urged the public to disregard these baseless claims, which it described as disinformation intended to damage Trkiye's relations with Libya.

The incident in question involved a private jet carrying a Libyan military delegation, which tragically crashed near Ankara on December 23, resulting in the deaths of all eight individuals on board, including three crew members.
