Khankendi: Trkiye expects that a potential peace deal between Baku and Yerevan would meet Azerbaijan's legitimate demands, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Friday in his meeting with Azerbaijani counterpart Ilham Aliyev.

According to Anadolu Agency, Trkiye is closely following the comprehensive peace talks between Azerbaijan and Armenia. Erdogan made these remarks during a meeting on the margins of a summit of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) in the Azerbaijani city of Khankendi, as reported by Trkiye's Communications Directorate on the social media platform X.

Yerevan and Baku initiated discussions on a peace agreement following the second Karabakh war of 2020. Azerbaijan established full sovereignty over Karabakh in September 2023.

The two leaders also addressed bilateral ties as well as regional and global issues. Erdogan noted that the solidarity between Trkiye and Azerbaijan serves as a model for others.

Erdogan emphasized the importance of expanding bilateral cooperation in energy and transportation. He also expressed satisfaction with the June 24 ceasefire between Iran and Israel, noting that establishing permanent peace in the region benefits everyone.
