Ankara: Trkiye's parliament speaker expressed optimism on Tuesday that the Development Road Project, which aims to connect Iraq with Trkiye, would be operational in the near future. Numan Kurtulmus, during a joint news conference in Ankara with Haibat al-Halbousi, Iraq's parliament speaker, stated his hope for the project's full implementation.

According to Anadolu Agency, Turkish officials have emphasized the significance of the Development Road Project, which will connect Asia and Europe via a strategic trade corridor running approximately 1,200 kilometers from Iraq's Grand Faw Port through Trkiye into Europe. Kurtulmus highlighted that the project would ensure connectivity and contribute to the development of both Iraq and Trkiye, while also fostering integration between Asian and European economies.

Kurtulmus noted that the two countries have reaffirmed their support for the project and discussed ways to expedite its execution. He stressed that the project would not only yield economic benefits but also serve to connect peoples, cultures, and cities across the region.

In addition, Kurtulmus addressed Trkiye's efforts to eradicate terrorism, expressing hope that the "Terror-Free Trkiye" approach would have a positive effect throughout the region. He pointed out the significance of Iraq's political institutions reaching a consensus on disarming militias, viewing it as a major achievement for the country.

Kurtulmus concluded by expressing hope for the timely implementation of the disarmament process in Iraq, envisioning a future where peace and security are prevalent across the nation.
